Following the “generalized moist potential vorticity” concept, two new diagnostic parameters, moist divergence and vorticity, are proposed and evaluated. Properly including moisture factor into a dynamical parameter can significantly increase the parameter's ability to depict heavy-rain locations, e.g., moist vorticity and divergence can cover heavy rain area much better than their dry versions. The moist vorticity is especially better. This talk will describe the formula, demonstrate an example and present its performance statistics out of 41 heavy rain cases.
