Solar Metrics — The Relationship Between Forecast System Component Behavior and the Overall Score

A full suite of metrics for the DOE Sunshot program were identified in a collaborative effort between the NCAR verification team lead by the NCAR/Research Applications Laboratory and the IBM verification team lead by National Renewable Energies Laboratory (NREL). The statistical suite is being applied systematically to forecasts developed by the two teams. This presentation will focus on a review of the metrics suite as well as preliminary results calculated for the NCAR system with an emphasis on how the scores of the system components relate to the resulting forecast score.
