Global Community OSSE Package (GCOP) is a package developed at different NOAA centers and integrated at NOAA JCSDA for simulating different observations, e.g., satellite radiances, GPS bending angles, and conventional data, from a free-running NWP model, currently G5NR from GMAO, NASA. The package is designed to be flexible and be able to run using different versions of CRTM as well as different “natures”, e.g., NR from G5NR and ECMWF. The impact of the simulated observations can be investigated using either GSI 3D hybrid or GSI 4D hybrid, and then the results can be post-processed using NOAA VSDB package.

In addition to the forward simulators for satellite radiances, GPS-RO, and conventional data, the package also includes the NOAA GFS NWP model, Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation (GSI) data assimilation system, JCSDA Independent Assessment Tools (IAT), and Forecast verification Database (VSDB). The system has been tested on three different HPC machines, i.e., NOAA S4, Theia, and JIBB.
