204 Introducing Climate Studies at Community College of Philadelphia

Community College of Philadelphia is the largest public institution of higher education in Philadelphia, serving approximately 35,000 students each year, of whom about 28,000 are enrolled in credit classes. More than half are 25 years of age or older; approximately 54% African-American, 13% Hispanic/Latino, and 10% Asian/Pacific Islander.

Climate-related topics are presented in physical geography, environmental science, building science, and biology courses. In addition, some sections of developmental English and composition courses incorporate sustainability and climate-related themes.

Faculty from the Community College of Philadelphia will discuss efforts to integrate sustainability and climate studies topics in their general education curriculum and with an interdisciplinary approach. In addition, they will discuss initiatives to promote sustainability and climate literacy on campus beyond the classroom.
