2A.4 Weather Enterprise Service Provider Technologies

Monday, 11 January 2016: 2:15 PM
Room 355 ( New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center)
Wayne Van Sickle, Harris Corporation, Melbourne, FL

A weather enterprise is not composed of a single do-all data gathering and processing system. It is a number of systems with focused missions and varying lineages. The enterprise challenge is how to manage and monitor these systems efficiently and allow inter-system communications to leverage resource and common infrastructure sharing, while also allowing each system to be independent. The systems are independent in the sense that the systems are not constrained to rigid requirements, nor do they require major upgrades to be integrated into the enterprise. Network Service Providers have been doing just that for many years. The focus of this presentation is how to bring MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching) into the weather enterprise to achieve these same benefits, with an added layer of security.
