765 Security Considerations for an Enterprise Ground System

Wednesday, 13 January 2016
Nick Patellis, Harris Corporation, Melbourne, FL

A secure ground system is essential to the protection of satellite assets while insuring the integrity and availability of weather products from those assets. To maximize protection, security must be engineered into an enterprise ground system, not added on. The best approach is multifaceted with an emphasis on proven architecture, design and top security products using all the tenets established under the DHS “Build Security In” framework. Strong authentication/authorization techniques, real-time analysis of network traffic, real time malware protection and solid processes are a few of the components that make up a robust security infrastructure. Harris has been a leader in providing secure enterprise-level ground systems for more than fifty years through programs such as the FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure and NOAA's GOES-R system.
