A GOES-R field campaign is planned for 6 weeks in duration between mid-April and mid-June 2017 in support of post-launch L1b & L2+ product validation of the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) and the Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM). An integrated approach is planned that includes high-altitude ER2 and ground-based observations over several Earth targets, coordinated with simultaneous data collections from several operational and research low earth-orbit satellite missions making similar or ancillary reference measurements (MODIS, IASI, CrIS/ATMS, VIIRS, ISS-LIS, GPM). This presentation will provide an overview of the GOES-R field campaign plans, the campaign open access web portal, and the methods developed to address several validation challenges of geostationary field campaign efforts. The GOES-R field campaign provides unique post-launch validation capabilities that can be leveraged by GOES-R science teams in support of efforts to ensure L1b & L2+ data quality. The introduction of advanced post-launch validation capabilities will support the needs of next-generation system performance characterization and will advance the current state-of-the-art of operational environmental satellite validation.
