Lance Bosart has made countless important contributions to synoptic-scale meteorology: tropical cyclone transitions, the synoptic contribution to the Johnstown flood storm, cold air damming, to name a few. Less obvious are his indirect contributions by influencing and inspiring other researchers as a role model for how to do observational research. This talk will present some examples of how his emphasis on paying attention to detail in synoptic research and forecasting has been an example to other researchers, including this writer, who has used similar approaches in mesoscale research.
