Test observations from a constellation of five geostationary hyperspectral infrared sounders (Geo-Hyper IR) covering all latitudes from 50S to 50N were simulated from the GEOS-5 Nature Run (G5NR).  These observations, using the same channels as Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer (IASI), contained explicit ob errors (biases and variances) based on the errors added to IASI Metop-A and Metop-B in the control dataset and forecast system used for Global Forecast Syste (GFS) Observing System Simulation Experiments (OSSEs).  Impacts on both analyses and forecasts will be shown, both on a global scale and in terms of tropical cyclone impacts (track and intensity).
