Analysis of reanalysis and observed data will demonstrate that the phase speed of Madden Julian Oscillation convection over the Pacific Ocean varies with the intensity of the Pacific subtropical jet stream, and is in part a response to advection of circulation anomalies by the jet. Result is part of broader study of the association of the global atmospheric circulation with the phase speed of MJO convection.
