The GOES-R weather satellite was launched November 19, 2016 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. For the Ground Segment (GS) team, the work was just beginning. From the initial Launch and Orbit Raising (LOR) through a fast-paced Post Launch Test (PLT) of algorithms for each of the six instruments, we present the accomplishments of the GOES-R (now GOES-16) GS team and its capabilities as GOES-S launch nears. In particular, we describe the phases of LOR, through the PLT period to its current state, with products meeting the latency and maturity levels required for distribution to external users via multiple methods including GOES Rebroadcast (GRB).
