As part of the new product suite from the recent GOES-16(R) launch, updated observation techniques such as the Global Lightning Mapper (GLM) have enhanced visualization of convection to support aviation operations. As part of the new product adaptation, Beta GLM data has been brought into the Aviation Weather Testbed to be evaluated in use for the production of the Traffic Flow Management (TFM) Convective Forecast (TCF). This is a collaborative integrated decision support service (IDSS) provided by the Aviation Weather Center with input from both commercial partners and the FAA ATCSCC. Further, GLM data is being evaluated against current operationally provided ground-based lightning data.

In addition, the AWT and AWC continue to support the use of total lightning products to support testing and operations. This presentation will also demonstrate the increased emphasis on gridded lightning products to support aviation forecasting and IDSS along with testing and updates on lightning derived products.
