Christie Best, NESDIS, Silver Spring, MD

The JPSS Level 1 requirements state that JPSS shall provide real-time X-band direct broadcast of instrument data, software, documentation and periodic updates to enable users to produce products from JPSS using their own hardware to receive JPSS High Rate Data broadcast. The Community Satellite Processing Package (CSPP) is a collection of software systems, for processing data from polar-orbiting meteorological satellites. NESDIS STAR Delivers Algorithm Packages (DAP) used for the global operational processing system at NOAA/NESDIS and CSPP to support the direct read out users creating Level 1b and higher level products.

To take advantage of the NOAA/NESDIS configuration management and quality assurance processes, used to create global operational DAPs and algorithm software, NOAA wants to levy similar processes on CSPP software products delivered to end users. This includes information on current and future software versions, updates and patches as well as updated user documentation on algorithms, data formats, and test data. Schedules and product prioritizations for future releases to CSPP will be available. These improvements will support the users’ expectations for software quality, timeliness and functionality.
