Design and implementation of a Windows-style software tool for multiple file analysis of meteorological data. A software demonstration will be included. This is an object-oriented, GUI application written in IDL. It is conceived as a generic (discipline-independent) tool for ascii data files containing a header and column data. Multiple file selection, file format definition, and selection of variables of interest occur within the application. User-defined sampling and binning grids allow flexible fine control of data selection. External library of operations conforming to application protocol allows library scalability and discipline switching. User interface allows construction and execution of nested sequences of operations. A library of operations for meteorology will be presented. A moderate-complexity visualization tool (using IDL object graphics) allows user choice of graphical displays of computational results and plot annotation/decoration.
