Evaluation of strategies for conducting atmospheric single column model experiments for SHEBA
James Pinto, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO; and J. Curry
Atmospheric single column model (SCM) simulations during SHEBA require boundary advection forcing. The only available data set for this forcing is NWP analyses. However, these analyses have documented deficiencies, and have led to large biases in SCM simuilations. Various strategies for conducting SCM simulations are described, that attempt to counteract this problem. Nudging strategies are discussed as a well as a strategy to infer advective tendencies from the time series of rawinsonde data.
