A method concept of weather forecasting along an aircraft route based on numerical model data
Slawomir A. Pietrek, Military University of Technology, Warsaw, Poland; and K. Kroszczynski
In synoptic practice so far, mainly empirical procedures of weather forecasting are applied. Effective weather forecasts for aviation, including additional information about vertical profiles of meteorological elements, require objective forecast of the atmospheric state based on the results of numerical models and remotely sensed data. Graphical presentations of vertical profiles of meteorological elements along a planned aircraft route were produced in the Meteorology Section of the Military University of Technology as a result of research concerning processing of UMPL model data. The obtained forecasted data is used as objective input for the operational procedures of weather hazards forecasting and for navigational computation. The authors assess that this method of weather forecast preparation for aviation enables comprehensive application of the knowledge of the atmospheric processes physics as well as objective analysis of meteorological parameters affecting the flight.
