4.4 User–Centric™ Weather–The Future of Broadcast Meteorology

Tuesday, 2 August 2005: 4:15 PM
Diplomat Ballroom (Omni Shoreham Hotel Washington D.C.)
Michael R. Smith, WeatherData, Inc., Wichita, KS

The integration of GIS and GPS technology into real-time meteorology will create, for the first time, the true personalization of weather based on location and interests – “user-centric weather.” This new technology can be leveraged to cover local, high-impact weather in ways never before possible. Reporters and spotters can be proactively dispatched to the location(s) where severe weather will occur. Once there, they can submit images and reports that instantly and automatically go on the air. Examples of on air coverage will be presented.
