COMET ensemble prediction training

During 2004 and the first half of 2005, COMET developed NWP training to help forecasters intelligently use ensemble prediction systems (EPSs). Training modalities include:

o An ensemble module, covering the basis and formulation of ensemble prediction systems, ensemble products and verification, and case examples

o An ensemble webcast, containing an overview of EPSs, intended for National Weather Service and military meteorologists

o A “one-stop shopping” interface to find information on ensemble prediction systems available either in AWIPS or on the web, including short- and medium-range ensemble forecasting systems produced at the National Centers for Environmental Prediction and other modeling centers.

An overview of the EPS training will be presented, including examples from each EPS training mode.
