Abstract for Loint Session on COMET materials at AMS/WAF conference in Washington, DC Aug. 1-5, 2005

The NWP PDS has been available to meteorologists both in and outside the National Weather Service (NWS) since December 2000, when the section on General Characteristics of NWP models was completed. Specific information on NCEP and other operational models was also published in 2000 with training provided through links in what we call the NWP matrix. The NWP matrix is a “living” document, so updates and additions have made as model changes occur and new operational models are developed. “New” splashes are provided at the top of the NWP matrix summarizing changes and additions as they are made. Finally, a section of NWP case examples was started in 2001. The cases examine the performance of new model implementations or other NWP forecast issues. Some of these cases have been brought to our attention through the North American Mesoscale (NAM, formerly Eta) and Global Forecast System (GFS) newsgroups, hosted through the COMET NWP website.

Since its initial publication, much more has been added to the NWP PDS. These additions include web pages, webcasts, teletraining, PowerPoint presentations, and other training media. For easy reference, a home page has been developed for all NWP training, which can be found at:

All training information on NWP, once published, can be accessed through the links on this page.
