5.4 USEPA's SunWise Program and Meteorologist: Working Together to Teach Kids Sun Safety

Tuesday, 2 August 2005: 4:51 PM
Diplomat Ballroom (Omni Shoreham Hotel Washington D.C.)
Linda Rutsch, USEPA SunWise Team, Washington, DC

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) considers meteorologists to be important partners in our ongoing effort to educate the public about the health risks of overexposure to solar UV radiation. USEPA will deliver a short presentation on the purpose and scope of SunWise, a national environmental and health education for K-8 schoolchildren that teaches about the causes and effects of stratospheric ozone depletion. We will describe various items – including the UV Alert, the UV Index, and the SunWise Meteorologists' Tool Kit – that are available to conference attendees and the public for free.
