Sunday, 14 January 2001
William E. Minsinger, Blue Hill Observatory, Milton, MA; and C. Orloff, M. Micheals, and H. M. Mogil

The Blue Hill Observatory, a National Historic Landmark, was fully restored in 1999 and opened as a Science Center. With funding from the Stearns and Fuller Foundations the staff at the Observatory is now involved in teaching the second year of our Women in Natural Science programing which uses meteorology and other earth sciences to teach math and science skills to inner city middle school girls. Building on our experiences in Project Atmosphere we are currently working on a curriculum which will use meteorology to teach at all K-12 grade levels.

The design of the WINS program will be discussed as will our successes and challenges we faced in the first 18 months of this program. Our efforts to expand this programming to include more schools and grade levels will also be presented. We feel this is a program which can be replicated in other locations and by other institutions.
