The Weather Notebook in the Classroom

Bryan Yeaton, Mount Washington Observatory, North Conway, NH

The Weather Notebook, a production of the Mount Washington Observatory presently heard on over 180 public radio station across the country, can be an excellent tool to teach weather in schools. The Observatory is developing a curriculum to accompany the show, and to add to its other educational components to help teachers bring weather into the clasroom.

The Weather Notebook is a daily, 2 minute radio program, also available on the Internet (www.weathernotebook.org) with Real Audio (tm). There are close to 250 shows every year-- 250 lesson opportunities-- plus archives from over seven years of earlier shows. The Mount Washington Observatory's educational staff, as well as cooperating teachers and curriculum developers, will be producing lessons, study questions and projects, activities, demonstrations, and resources expected to be available through print or Internet.
