Evaluation of a digital receiver for the research and development of WSR-88D
D. S. Zrnic, NOAA/NSSL, Norman, OK; and A. Zahrai
The rapid advance in cellular phone technology makes possible economic replacement of a part of current analogue receivers with the digital counterpart. We discuss the two crucial components that have become recently available, the fast analogue to digital converters (A/D) and digital down-conversion circuits. A brief theory of operation is presented and considerations for application to weather radar are reviewed. A commercial inexpensive of the shelf receiver is planed for testing. Choice of sampling frequency and other programable parameters that can make the receiver compatible with the WSR-88D operations are described. If available results of tests will be included.
