Partnerships in marine science education
CORE was established in 1994 to bring a voice to Washington, DC for the Ocean Sciences community. An outgrowth of the organization's work has been the development of the National Oceanographic Partnership Program (NOPP), a Federal program that supports marine research and marine education projects that rely on partnerships across job sectors and scientific fields to leverage human and financial resources. Since several principal investigators of NOPP-funded educational programs will be presenting in this session, we will focus on the following instead: (1) providing a general overview of NOPP, (2) presenting information on the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB), an academic competition for high school students, and (3) discussing future directions for collaborations between research scientists and science educators.
