Consortium of Oceanographic Activities for Students and Teachers (COAST)
COAST, funded by the National Oceanographic Partnership Program, was an innovative collaborative designed to deliver technology enriched, oceanographic and coastal processes education to 365 pre- and inservice teachers throughout this nation in 1998-2000. This presentation will provide the accomplishments and benefits relative to teacher enhancement and teacher preparation in the ocean sciences, curriculum development and alignment with the National Science Education Standards, augmented instructional strategies, evaluation and assessment methodologies, the establishment of “win-win” partnerships, the use of Websites for curricular dissemination, and taking “teachers to sea” aboard U.S. Navy Oceanographic Survey Ships. This NOPP funded effort was extended in 2000 and is being implemented as COAST:PILOT through 2002.
