Issues surrounding linearity specification constriction
Current radar digital receivers have a linear dynamic range greater than 100 dB with a linearity of ±1.0 dB. Recent inquiries to change the specification to 0.25 dB resulted in system analysis to obtain the desired linearity. This paper addresses the pertinent issues concerning reducing the linearity specification, including the definitions of linearity (p-norm, multisigma, and rms), measurement error analysis, dynamic compensation of system variations due to temperature and age, and the impact upon meteorological products.
