The GrADS-DODS Server (GDS), developed at COLA (the Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Research) combines GrADS (the Grid Analysis and Display System) and DODS (the Distributed Oceanographic Data System). The GDS allows any GrADS-readable dataset (including WMO GRIB and BUFR formats) to be accessed remotely, using either a web browser or a DODS-enabled analysis tool. It also goes beyond the typical DODS server by providing a server-side analysis capability. It has been designed to be easy to install and use, and can scale to handle thousands of datasets and dozens of simultaneous users.This paper will discuss the many new capabilities implemented since the initial release of the GDS. These include the addition of in-situ data support, including WMO BUFR format; the ability to perform analysis using both remote and local datasets as input; and a rich set of features designed to enhance reliability, scalability, security, and ease-of-use for both the administrator and the users of the server.The GDS software and documentation are available athttp://www.iges.org/grads/gds.
