The role of climate in modern water planning and related decisions: Nebraska case study
Water is an important resource in Nebraska, where irrigation is widely used and the groundwater serves as a major source. This study examines how decision makers and planners in the water sector incorporate weather and climate data into their operations. A survey was conducted to determine the source, frequency of use, and extent of application of weather/climate data in various federal, state, and local government as well as the private sector. In addition, selected participants were interviewed to determine their background and views on the use of weather/climate data in the water sector. Potential users of weather and climate data desire relevant information to reduce uncertainty and the training necessary to apply such information.
