P1.46 A High Resolution Nonhydrostatic Tropical Cyclone Model

Wednesday, 24 May 2000
Kwok Aun Tan, University of New South Wales, Sydney, NSW, Australia; and L. Leslie

A high resolution non-hydrostatic model has been developed for meso-\gamma and micro-\alpha scale studies. The main focus of the model is to study tropical cyclones. The dynamical formulation of the model is based on the fully compressible Euler equations. An explicit microphysics package is used in the model. The model has been designed to run on both vector and parallel high performance computing platforms. The model formulation and numerical implementation will be described. A test case on the evolution of a tropical cyclone with be presented and the performance of the model on high performance computing platforms will be discussed.
