Hurricane Weather Research and Forecast(HWRF) modelling system has been providing forecasters with the guidance of tropical cyclone's tracks and intensity in operational basis. The performance of HWRF system has been improved significantly over last several years. As a result, the track forecast errors are comparable to NCEP global forecast model(GFS) and intensity errors are close to NHC official forecast. In order to improve forecast performance of HWRF, HWRF team at EMC is going to upgrade several aspect of the system, such as data assimilation, vortex initialization, nest motion, coupled ocean model and model physics. The progress of the upgrades and test results will be presented in the presentation.
