The global warming trend was missing in the last decade, which was termed the "global warming hiatus". Several recent studies connected the global warming hiatus with the Interdecadal Pacific Oscillation (IPO). This study examines the causes and physical mechanisms of the global warming hiatus using multiple global observational datasets. The results show that the global warming hiatus was caused by multiple climate modes that interact with each other. The underlying physical mechanisms are discussed, and a tentative prediction for the future global warming trend will be presented.
