Leveraging open-source and new technology infusion in AWIPS II

The Advanced Weather and Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) Continuous Technology Refresh (CTR) leverages new and proven technologies and incorporates them into the AWIPS baseline. AWIPS II comprises a new software architecture, migrating existing functionality to a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), improving and enhancing the maintainability, adaptability, and extensibility of the system, and employing Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) solutions. This approach will also enable simpler, more rapid introduction of new technology, new science, and new data types into AWIPS to improve overall forecaster support.
