Houston and Harris County lies in the Gulf coastal plain of Texas which is generally flat and can at times receive incredible short durtation rainfall rates. The presentation will investigate the correlation between intense short duration rainfall rates and significant instances of flooding across Harris County and the City of Houston through various major storm events that have occured over the last several decades. Additionally, the talk will discuss the communication efforts of both the local National Weather Service Office, the Harris County Flood Control District, and the Harris County Office of Emergency Management during such rapid evolving events and how consistent messaging is useful.
