The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is acquiring the next-generation weather and environmental satellite system, named the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS). The Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (S-NPP) satellite was launched on 28 October, 2011, and is a pathfinder for JPSS and provides continuity for the NASA Earth Observation System and the NOAA Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite (POES) system. JPSS-1 is scheduled to launch in 2017. NASA is developing the Common Ground System which will process JPSS data and has the flexibility to process data from other satellites. The presentation focus on data products and their applications, data access, data format, and data distribution.
