1.2 Partnerships for Environmental Literacy, serving the American public

D. L. Johnson, NOAA/NWS, Silver Spring, MD

The relationship between NOAA's NWS and its partners has evolved and has become stronger thanks to a new NOAA partnership policy that supports the entire weather enterprise. NWS maintains strong, vibrant partnerships to keep weather, water and climate data, services and warnings flowing. Modern information technologies, and new products and services help keep the public well informed, in some instances instantly, as severe weather and other hazardous events develop and track across local communities and the country. Immediate challenges include training meteorologists to use the new NWS digital services to improve local forecasting. Outreach efforts promote environmental literacy by linking all NOAA environmental services through a new effort known as NOAA in Your Neighborhood.
