Abstract

Prof Lev Gutmans contribution to meteorology and mesoscale modelling is very important and he picked up early in his research important topics relating to mesoscale modelling but also on ideas how mesoscale models could be coupled to large scale models to make more accurate and local weather predictions possible. I will talk about his thoughts in this respect but also briefly try to give a picture of his research environment in Soviet Union in 1971 when I visited “Akademgorodok” outside Novosibirsk, 7 years before he left for Israel. I will also briefly tell about his stays in Sweden in the 1980’s and early 90’s.
