ASSIMILATION OF GPS DROPWINDSONDE DATA USING A VICBAR ENSEMBLE
The use of the Ensemble Transform Kalman Filter to assimilate dropsonde data gathered from G-IV missions is explored. Experiments are conducted using an ensemble of VICBAR model forecasts to generate error statistics for data assimilation. VICBAR forecasts initialized using analyses produced from the VICBAR ensemble are compared with VICBAR forecasts initialized using traditional methods.
