The Model Evaluation Tools (MET) software package supports the majority the testing and evaluation (T&E) performed by the Developmental Testbed Center (DTC). MET is freely available and supported to both the research and operational Numerical Weather Prediction communities. The verification team within the DTC collaborates with internal and external partners to enhance MET to better support a wide range of verification needs. This presentation will demonstrate recent advancements that will be available in the next MET release, which is scheduled for the summer of 2015. Specifically, we will present the calculation of categorical statistics for tropical cyclone rapid intensification and rapid weakening (RI/RW) events and the use of Method for Object-based Diagnostic Evaluation – Time Domain (MODE-TD) on different spatial and temporal scales of data. The application of MODE-TD to both climate and mesoscale model data will also be demonstrated.
