A recently presented method of Brasseur allows prediction of wind gusts, based on the dynamic state of the atmospheric flow. Here, this method is applied as post-processing of the output of numerical simulations of flow over the complex terrain of Iceland. The method reflects the observed regional variability in the strength of the gusts and the results are in general in acceptable agreement with observations, as long as the mean winds are correctly predicted by the numerical model.
