Using a regional climate model implemented over the Australian region, previous simulations have suggested tentatively that global warming may affect the typical poleward extent of tropical cyclones, with storms tracking further poleward under enhanced greenhouse conditions. These simulations were conducted with a horizontal resolution of 125 km. Using a finer resolution, multiply-nested climate model at a horizontal resolution of 30 km, simulations are conducted of tropical cyclone-like vortices off the east coast of Australia. The evolution of the storms is examined, including their intensities and tracks under current and enhanced greenhouse climates. Conclusions are made regarding the possible effect of climate change on tropical cyclones, and these are compared to previous results. Final results will be presented at the conference.
